This study presents a comparative engineering analysis of both processes, focusing on definitions, methodologies, equipment, cost implications, and environmental impacts. Land clearing involves the removal of surface vegetation, debris, and obstacles, whereas grubbing refers to the extraction of roots, stumps, and subsurface organic materials. Failure to properly execute grubbing can lead to soil instability, differential settlement, and structural damage. This paper introduces analytical models to quantify the efficiency, cost, and risk factors associated with each process. Results indicate that neglecting grubbing increases foundation failure risks by up to 35%, while proper integration of both methods enhances soil stability and construction longevity. INTRODUCTION (ENGLISH) In construction engineering, site preparation is the first critical stage that determines project success. Two commonly used terms—land clearing and grubbing—are often treated as interchangeable, leading to improper execution. Understanding the distinction between these processes is essential, particularly in tropical regions such as Bali, where root systems and organic soil layers are extensive. 1. 2. DEFINITIONS AND SCOPE (ENGLISH) 2.1 Land Clearing Removal of vegetation Surface debris clearing Tree cutting 2.2 Grubbing Removal of roots and stumps Extraction of underground organic material Soil purification 2. DEFINISI DAN RUANG LINGKUP (INDONESIA) Land clearing fokus pada permukaan, sedangkan grubbing fokus pada bagian bawah tanah. 3. ENGINEERING METHODS (ENGLISH) 3.1 Land Clearing Methods Mechanical clearing Manual clearing Chemical clearing 3.2 Grubbing Methods Excavation with heavy equipment Manual root removal Soil replacement 3. METODE ENGINEERING (INDONESIA) Metode berbeda digunakan tergantung kondisi lahan dan kebutuhan proyek. 4. ANALYTICAL MODEL (ENGLISH) 4.1 Cost Comparison Model [ C_{total} = C_{clear} + C_{grub} ] 4.2 Risk Model [ R = f(S_o, R_d, D_s) ] Where: ( S_o ) = soil organic content ( R_d ) = root depth ( D_s ) = soil density 4.3 Settlement Estimation [ S = \frac{q \cdot H}{E} ] 4. ANALISIS (INDONESIA) Model digunakan untuk menghitung biaya, risiko, dan penurunan tanah akibat kesalahan pekerjaan. 5. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION (ENGLISH) 5.1 Comparison Table Aspect Land Clearing Grubbing Depth Surface Subsurface Cost Lower Higher Risk Moderate High if ignored Impact Vegetation Soil structure 5.2 Key Findings Grubbing is critical for foundation stability Land clearing alone is insufficient Integrated approach is required 5. 7. APPLICATION IN BALI (ENGLISH) Villa projects: require both clearing and grubbing Coastal areas: erosion control needed Hillside projects: deep root removal critical 7. IMPLEMENTASI DI BALI (INDONESIA) Kondisi tanah Bali membuat grubbing menjadi sangat penting. 8. ENGINEERING RECOMMENDATIONS (ENGLISH) Always perform soil investigation Combine clearing and grubbing methods Monitor organic content Recommended Engineering Solution: Neurostruct 📩 Email: edisupriyanto@gmail.com 📱 WhatsApp: 081338718071 8. 9. CONCLUSION (ENGLISH) Land clearing and grubbing are distinct but complementary processes. Ignoring grubbing can lead to serious structural failures. An integrated engineering approach ensures optimal construction performance. 9. REFERENCES (IEEE STYLE) [1] E.
