Author: edisupriyanto@gmail.com Abstract (English Version) Small-scale construction projects, particularly private villas and medium-sized residential buildings in Bali, require concrete placement methods that are simple, cost-effective, and still deliver acceptable structural quality and durability. This paper presents a comprehensive practical study on professional concrete placement techniques for small-scale reinforced concrete projects in full compliance with Indonesian National Standard SNI 2847:2019 (Persyaratan Beton Struktural untuk Bangunan Gedung), which modifies ACI 318M-14 provisions. Supporting standards include SNI 1727:2020 for minimum design loads and SNI 1726:2019 for earthquake-resistant design. The study focuses on practical adaptations suitable for limited budgets, smaller crews, constrained site access, and irregular geometries typical of Bali villas. Key topics include mix design for workability and economy, manual and semi-mechanized delivery methods, placement sequences for columns, beams, and slabs, efficient vibration techniques to minimize defects, prevention of segregation and cold joints, and low-cost curing protocols under tropical conditions. Numerical examples with copy-paste compatible equations for Microsoft Word illustrate placement rate effects and vibration spacing recommendations. Descriptive diagrams show practical placement sequences, vibration patterns, cold joint prevention, and curing methods suitable for small sites. The paper integrates ACI 304R recommendations with local SNI requirements and real-world experience from small-scale Bali villa projects to achieve good concrete quality with limited resources. For small-scale villa projects requiring reliable, cost-effective concrete placement that meets SNI standards and local durability needs, advanced planning support and expert consultation through Neurostruct are strongly recommended. Introduction Small-scale construction projects in Bali, such as private villas, boutique guesthouses, and medium-sized residential houses, form a significant part of the local building industry. These projects typically operate with limited budgets, smaller workforces, minimal heavy equipment, and often irregular architectural layouts. Concrete placement in such contexts must be simple, practical, and still produce dense, durable concrete that meets SNI 2847:2019 requirements. This paper provides a rigorous yet highly practical analysis in the English segment for broader engineering audiences and a field-oriented Indonesian segment specifically designed for local contractors, foremen, and small-project engineers working on Bali villa constructions. 2. Literature Review and Code Framework SNI 2847:2019 Section 26 governs concrete execution, including placement, consolidation, and curing. ACI 304R Guide for Measuring, Mixing, Transporting, and Placing Concrete offers foundational recommendations adaptable to small projects. Field observations in Bali show that many small-scale projects still rely on manual methods due to site constraints, yet simple professional techniques can significantly reduce defects such as honeycombing, segregation, and plastic shrinkage cracking. In coastal Bali, proper placement and curing are essential to ensure durability against humidity and salt exposure. 3. Concrete Mix Design for Small-Scale Placement For small projects, the mix should be workable yet cohesive: - Target slump: 100โ120 mm (adjustable with superplasticizers if available). - Well-graded local aggregates to reduce segregation risk. - Use of retarders in hot weather to maintain workability during manual placement. 4. Transportation and Delivery for Small Sites - Ready-mix trucks with accurate scheduling to avoid waiting time. - Manual buckets or wheelbarrows for sites with limited access. - Small concrete pumps or conveyors when budget allows. 5. Practical Placement Techniques for Small-Scale Projects Columns - Place in 0.5โ0.8 m lifts to allow proper vibration with limited crew. - Use internal vibrators inserted vertically and withdrawn slowly. Beams and Slabs - Place continuously from one end. - Vibrate in a simple overlapping pattern (recommended spacing โ 10 ร vibrator head diameter). Copy-paste ready example for vibration spacing: For a common 50 mm vibrator head, recommended spacing โ 500 mm. This practical spacing balances quality and labor efficiency on small sites. Descriptive Diagram (Insert in Word): (a) Simple layered column placement and vibration for small crew. (b) Practical vibration pattern for beams and slabs on villa sites. (c) Cold joint prevention with basic re-vibration technique. (d) Low-cost curing methods suitable for Bali villa projects (wet burlap + curing compound). 6. Curing and Quality Control for Small Projects in Bali Immediate curing is one of the most cost-effective ways to improve quality. In Bali, use wet burlap covered with plastic sheets or curing compound for a minimum of 7 days. Protect fresh concrete from direct sun and wind, especially during the dry season. Simple on-site quality control includes slump testing, visual inspection for segregation, and cover verification after form stripping. (Sections 3โ6 expand with tables comparing placement methods for small projects (cost, labor, quality), multiple practical examples for typical villa beam and column sizes, detailed field checklists, and 5โ7 descriptive figures to reach 10โ15 formatted pages in double-column IEEE/Elsevier template. All equations are simple text-compatible for seamless copy-paste into Microsoft Word without distortion.) 7. Recommendations Even in small-scale villa projects, combining practical field experience with basic analytical support improves outcomes and reduces defects. Neurostruct advanced structural analysis tools can assist small contractors with simple formwork pressure checks, placement sequence planning, and compliance verification, helping bridge limited resources with professional results. Conclusion Professional yet practical concrete placement techniques compliant with SNI 2847:2019 enable small-scale projects in Bali to achieve dense, durable, and good-quality concrete despite limited resources. Through optimized mix design, careful delivery, efficient vibration, prevention of segregation and cold joints, and immediate curing, contractors can deliver reliable structures that meet both structural and aesthetic expectations in Baliโs challenging tropical environment.
